2018 Bishop’s Gala an Outstanding Success

The 15th Annual Bishop’s Gala, in support of the Niagara Foundation for Catholic Education, took place at Club Roma on April 20, and is being hailed by the more than 300 attendees from Niagara Catholic, our local parishes and Catholic school supporters in the community as a resounding success.

This year’s event featured pre-dinner entertainment by Dr. Christina LeRose, a Niagara Catholic Distinguished Alumni and Itinerant Arts teacher, the magnificent Saint Paul Catholic High School Drum Line and Choir, and the comedy of Joe Pillitteri, who is also a recipient of a Niagara Catholic Distinguished Alumni Award. Thank you once again to the Knights of Columbus for providing an honour guard entrance for Director of Education John Crocco, Father Paul MacNeil, Chair of the Board, and Honourary Board Chair Bishop Bergie, Bishop of the Diocese of St. Catharines.

This year Niagara Catholic recognized two very special people with the Niagara Catholic Education Award of Distinction. Former Director of Education, Mr. Peter Ferren, who has served as President of the Foundation since its inception, and the late Eileen McCarthy, a teacher and counsellor at Notre Dame College School, were honoured during the dinner. Mr. Ferren thanked the Selection Committee for honouring him for his years of service to Catholic education in Niagara, while Miss McCarthy’s brother John spoke on behalf of the family, noting their gratitude for the posthumous honour of their sister.
