Niagara Catholic District School Board

PicnicIt’s hard to believe we have reached the end of another exciting school year! June is another busy month, as we conclude so many wonderful things that started this year!

On June 1, Niagara Catholic staff will come together as a family for the annual Niagara Catholic Family Picnic at Queenston Heights. This will be a day filled with faith and fellowship, beginning with a Mass led by Bishop Bergie and an afternoon of activities for kids.

On June 4, the Lakeshore Catholic High School Jazz Band will perform the National Anthem prior to the Cleveland Indians-Boston Red Sox game at Progressive Field in Cleveland. We hope to get this thrilling performance on video, so check Niagara Catholic TV in June to see them in action.

Parents, family members and friends of our incredibly talented secondary school artists are invited to join us at the Catholic Education Centre on June 5 for the launch of the Young Artists Gallery. This event begins at 6:30 p.m. As with our Primary, Junior and Intermediate students, the artwork is displayed in the public sections of the Catholic Education Centre, and we encourage you to take a look at the work when you visit the Catholic Education Centre.

The Roots of Empathy Program teaches elementary students the concept of thinking beyond themselves by watching a newborn through its first year of life. On June 10, Niagara Catholic will host our youngest “teachers” and their mothers at the Roots of Empathy Celebration at the Catholic Education Centre.

Michael J. Brennan Catholic Elementary School opened its doors in September 1976. After nearly 40 years, it will close its doors for the final time on June 27. Join the Michael J. Brennan School Community for a Closing Celebration on June 11 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. On June 12, students, staff and families will take part in a Closing Mass to celebrate Michael J. Brennan’s rich history of Catholic education in the north end of St. Catharines.

Every year, the June Director’s Meeting is dedicated to celebrating the past year, and our past leaders. The Administrator’s/Past Leaders Luncheon will take place on June 18.

Secondary exams begin on June 19. For many, this will be the final set of high school exams before the set off for an apprenticeship, college, university or the world of work. We wish all of our students well as they prepare for and write the second semester final exams.

After serving the needs of families in Niagara Falls since the 1950s, St. Thomas More Catholic Elementary School will close its doors for the final time on June 27. Students, staff and families will participate in a Closing Mass on June 20.

The mission of the Diocese of St. Catharines is founded in the mission of Jesus Christ. In the Gospel of St. John, Jesus states that He came down from heaven, "not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me." (Jn6:38) Jesus' mission is doing the will of his Father. This is the will of the Father, "that all who see the Son and believe in him will have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day". (Jn 6:40)

The Diocese of St. Catharines' mission is rooted in doing the Father's will by proclaiming His son to the world so that all can know, love and serve Him. This mission is lived out on a daily basis in our parishes, schools and Catholic institutions. We find clergy, religious and laity committed to proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ by witnessing to His truth, justice, love and mercy. St. Catharines Diocese is where faith lives.
