Dr. Angelo Albanese
Dr. Angelo Albanese was involved in Catholic education for five decades. He first served as a separate school trustee in 1959 with the Fonthill Separate School Board. He was the Chairperson from 1964 to 1968.
After the amalgamation of the county boards in 1969, he served on the Welland County Roman Catholic Separate School Board continuously from 1969 until his death in 1991. While on the Welland Board, he served as Chairperson for 10 years, and as Vice-Chairperson for another five years.
Dr. Albanese was named as the first Chair of the Board of Governors of Welland’s Notre Dame College School in 1973.
Dr. Albanese was also a Director on the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association for many years and served as First Vice-President. He also served as Chairman of its Finance Committee.
For many years, Dr. Albanese was a Councillor with the Ontario School Trustees’ Council and eventually served as its Chairman.
Dr. Albanese played a major role in lobbying the government to extend full funding to Ontario’s Roman Catholic secondary schools. His legacy lives on.
