Congratulations to Emilio Geremia, a Grade 3 student at Holy Name Catholic Elementary School, who recently learned he obtained the highest mark in Canada on his Grade 1
piano musicianship and playing exam.
Emilio received scores of 97.5 per cent and 97.7 per cent in the respective categories for the Canadian National Conservatory of Music exam, which he took in June 2015. Emilio’s parents, Lakeshore Catholic High School Vice-Principal Mario Geremia and Kerri-Ann Geremia, a teacher at Notre Dame College School, learned of their son’s outstanding accomplishment in January.
Although he has been taking lessons for three-and-a-half years, Emilio’s musical gift is natural. “I make up songs off the top of my head,” said he said, demonstrating his talent while his younger brother Antonio (who is in ELKP at Holy Name Catholic Elementary School) played along on the drums. The brothers are frequent contributors to Saturday evening Mass at St. Kevin Parish, and also accompany their dad – who also plays the piano – to his local performances.accomplishment earlier this year. Emilio, who turned 8 in December, will receive his Silver Medal Award (the top prize presented) at a banquet in Yorkton, Saskatchewan in August. He has also been invited to perform at the celebration.
You can read more about Emilio in the upcoming issue of Showcase. In the meantime, check out his skills on the ivories here.
