The DM High Voltage Robotics Team has completed its most successful season in FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition). This year’s challenge was called Rebound Rumble, based on the game of basketball. The students and mentors had six weeks to design, build, and program a robot that could shoot basketballs and balance on a bridge.
After a very productive and intense build, the team looked forward to competition season to put their robot into action against teams from Ontario and Michigan.
The DM High Voltage Team competed in two events this season: The Greater Toronto Regional Event and the Waterloo Regional Event. During the Greater Toronto East Regional Event we had a strong semi-final finish and brought home the prestigious Innovation in Control Award for robot design. DM High Voltage excelled throughout the Waterloo Regional by advancing to the finals and finishing with a silver medal, a first in team history.
The students worked vigorously and effectively throughout the six week build season with the guidance of industry mentors and DM teachers whose focus was to promote team spirit, gracious professionalism and maturity, and the ability to overcome obstacles, which is the foundation of FIRST Robotics. All involved in this successful season should be proud of their overall commitment and experience and we are looking forward to the challenge that next year’s competition will bring. A special thank you is given to all of our sponsors, Niagara Catholic, Denis Morris Catholic High School, mentors and parents for their support and guidance throughout this season.
