a YEAR 5 where applicable**
Additional Compulsory Credits required
for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma:
• 1 Health and Physical Education
• 1 Arts (includes visual art, drama, music etc.)
• 1 additional credit in English, or French as a
second language, or a Native language, or a classical or an
international language, or social sciences and the humanities, or
Canadian and world studies, or guidance and career education, or
cooperative education.
• 1 of Health and Physical Education or Arts or
Business or Cooperation Education
• 1 of Grade 11 or 12 Science or Grade 9 -12
Technological Education or Cooperative Ed.
Steps to Achieving an Ontario
Secondary School Diploma:
1. Successfully pass 18 compulsory high school
courses listed above. (Plus 4 Religion credits)
2. Successfully complete 8 additional credits of
your choice.
3. Pass the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test
or Course.
4. Complete 40 hours of documented Community
Service. (10 hours per year during the Religion class)
