It took years of planning and a year of construction, but the students and staff of Saint Michael Catholic High School are now enjoying the benefits of the $6.1-million expansion and renovation of the school.
On Tuesday, February 2, the students and staff at the school were joined by the entire Saint Michael community, Trustees, Senior Staff, administrators, parents and local political representatives to celebrate the Blessing and Official Opening of the new areas of the school, including traditional classrooms, an updated automotive technology facility, a high-performance fitness area, Sparking Life fitness centre and an updated kitchen for Culinary Arts students to enjoy.
Bishop Gerard Bergie led the official blessing of the new areas of the school, assisted by Fr. Don Lizzotti, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church. Fr. Peter Rowe, Pastor of St. Thomas More Church, was also in attendance.
Music for the evening was provided by students from Saint Michael Catholic High School, and choirs from the Saint Michael Family of Schools: Father Hennepin Catholic Elementary School, Loretto Catholic Elementary School, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Elementary School and Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School.
The evening ended with a reception catered by the very talented Culinary Arts students, under the guidance of Chef Mario Scozzafava.
Thank you to all those who organized the event and to all those who attended. A full gallery of photos from the event can be found on the Niagara Catholic Facebook page.
