Holy Childhood Walk 2015
Each year, Niagara Catholic supports the Holy Childhood Association, a mission club for elementary students around the world with the goal of awakening the social consciousness in children, through Holy Childhood Walks in elementary schools.
Additional PA Day Added to 2015-2016 School Year Calendar
Elementary and secondary students will have an additional Professional Activity Day this year. The additional day, April 15, 2016, has been added as a result of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association’s (OECTA) contract negotiations with the Province.
This Professional Activity Day will focus on health and safety training and assessments.
This year, 39 schools participated in Holy Childhood Walks, which raised $14,547.12 for projects in Antille, Ghana, Madgascar, Mauritius, Namibia and Thailand. This brings the 31-year total of funds raised by Niagara Catholic students to more than $655,000.
Niagara Catholic Technology Blueprint Updated
Niagara Catholic approved its multi-year Vision 2020 Strategic Plan in 2010. Within the Plan are two strategic directions: Build Strong Catholic Identity and Community to Nurture the Distinctiveness of Catholic Education, and Advance Student Achievement for All.
One of the key enabling strategies to achieve these strategic directions is to Enhance Technology for Optimal Learning. This impacts students, staff, classrooms and Board sites. Every student and staff member uses technology for learning, teaching and supporting students to achieve the Board’s strategic directions.
As part of Vision 2020, a Technology Blueprint was created to support classroom instruction, student support and Board operations. Updates were provided in October 2011 and June 2012.
Technology has changed rapidly since 2010, and this has put pressure on the Educational Technology Services Department to create a network that supports approximately 25,000 users with differing needs each day.
During the January 12 Committee of the Whole Meeting, Superintendent of Education Ted Farrell and Grant Frost, the Board’s Education Technology Officer, presented a revised Technology Blueprint, which will bring Niagara Catholic through 2020.
