St. Kevin Catholic School students and parents took to the streets as they do every morning before school, but for many on June 2, 2015, the vehicles were left behind. On this day, 130 students and parents participated in the school’s Walk and Roll Day, as part of their Safe Travel Plan Committee’s Active Transportation initiative.
Students walked, biked and skateboarded their way to school, doing their part to step up their efforts to be good stewards of our earth. They were welcomed by committee members Laurie McDowell, Harold Sawchuck, principal Enrico Schirru, Superintendent Lee Ann Forsyth-Sells, Welland City Counsellor Leo Van Vliet, and School Health Nurse Julie Reniewick. The CAA Niagara team of Ivona Radon and Bill Tripp were on hand as well and generously donated refreshments and nutritious treats for the participants.
The school now looks forward to Footloose Fridays, hoping to attract even more active travelers to and from school!
