About Catholic Education

Catholic schools are much more than places where prayer and learning come together; they are where our faith comes to life. All Niagara Catholic students and staff are called by name to be the hands, feet, and face of Jesus, loved and welcomed as children of God.

In Ontario, all children baptized into the Catholic Church are entitled to attend a Catholic elementary school. Niagara Catholic admits non-Catholic children with a Catholic parent as a priority admission. All other students are admitted at the principal’s discretion. Catholic high schools are open to all students.

Students in Catholic schools follow the Ontario curriculum. Everything we do, from teaching core subjects to activities, clubs, and teams, is done from a Catholic perspective.

Catholic students learn about the sacraments on their faith journey. In Grade 2 they prepare for and then receive their first sacraments of reconciliation and Communion. Students receive confirmation in Grade 8. During these special years, students work closely with their teachers, parish priests, and Elementary Chaplaincy Leaders to prepare. Grade 8 students also participate in a special one-day retreat at their future Catholic high school.

Niagara Catholic is blessed to have Bishop Bergie as our spiritual leader and Fr. Paul MacNeil as our Vicar of Education. They, with all parish priests within the Diocese of St. Catharines, support students on their faith journey. They do more than just celebrate Mass, liturgies, and prayer services for schools. They are regular, welcome visitors, attending assemblies, celebrations, and family events.
