The Communications Department supports our staff and trustees in many ways, including:
- Posts and engagement on social media
- Working with the media
- Writing good news updates
- Writing letters, speeches, scripts, and newsletters
- Taking photos and creating videos
- Creating annual reports, budget books, and other documents
- Supporting senior staff and trustees with crisis communications and other projects as needed
We pledge to:
- Communicate with families first and as soon as possible during emergencies. Parents and guardians will get updates as often as possible.
- Share information with families in plain, easy to understand language on our website, email, text messages, and social media.
- Tell stakeholders if we are looking for information, consultation, or collaboration.
- Give stakeholders the information they need to provide feedback.
We are committed to equity, diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility in all we do.
- The language in our communications is clear and easy to understand, avoiding jargon. We use short, direct sentences whenever possible to make sure translation services can accurately translate what we write.
- The images we use show all members of our Niagara Catholic community.
- Recognizing our board colours may not be visible to individuals with colour blindness, we strive to ensure there is a mix of colours in our documents and do not add colour to our text.
- When we italicize words, we use bold to ensure they are more visible to readers.
- We use a sans-serif font in day-to-day communications to make documents easier to read.
The Communications Department writes the monthly newsletter for families, The Chronicle, and works with Human Resources to create our staff newsletter, The CommUNITY.
