Leah Sandel is a star on the rise in the track and field world, and we aren’t just throwing around compliments.
The 12 year old is entering Grade 7 at St. George Catholic Elementary School and is a member of the Thorold Elite Track and Field Club, where she participates in shot put, disc, and javelin.
In June, Leah competed at the Youth Meet of Champions in Landover, Maryland as part of Team Ontario, finishing eighth out of 31 competitors in shot put and fifth out of 15 in disc.
In early July, Leah participated in the Flying Angels International Competition in Toronto, throwing a personal best in shot put, finishing second. She also got silver in javelin.
In mid-July, Leah competed in the Minor Track Association (MTA) championships in Markham, beating her own personal best in shot put with a throw of 8.60 metres to take gold in the event. She also had a great showing in javelin and disc, taking silver in both.
