Catholic education is about more than prayer in schools and sharing bible stories.
Our faith comes to life in all that we do. We are all called to be the hands, face, and feet of Jesus.
Niagara Catholic elementary students grow and learn together in faith beginning in kindergarten. All students are active in the faith life of the school. They attend Masses and liturgies and take part in social justice projects.
Elementary students take four, 40-minute religion classes each week. Then Institute for Catholic Education and the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario (ACBO) created the curriculum. Learn more about it below:
Elementary Religious Education Curriculum
Teachers support this learning with the Growing in Faith, Growing in Christ resource.
Students also have one 40-minute period of family life each week.
Students will follow the new family life curriculum beginning in September 2024.
In secondary schools, students take one Religion credit in each year of high school.
Niagara Catholic schools celebrate Catholic education every day. Catholic Education Week is a time when we join Catholic school boards in Ontario to honour the gift of Catholic education across the province. Catholic Education Week in 2025 is May 4-9. The 2025 theme is Pilgrims of Hope. Catholic Education Week is an initiative of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association and aligns with Education Week in Ontario. It also aligns with Mental Health Awareness Week.
Niagara Catholic has a multi-year theological theme focused on scripture. Our current theme is Called by Name: Come Follow Me. It is the third year in a four-year plan.
We believe our faith contributes to our overall wellbeing, and join our celebrations of both weeks through the leadership of our Board Chaplaincy Leader, our Religion and Family Life Consultant, and our Manager of Mental Health and Well-Being.
Holy Childhood Association
Elementary students take part in Holy Childhood Walks supporting the Holy Childhood Association. This program also supports students in the Global South.
Development and Peace
Niagara Catholic has a strong tie with Development and Peace. Our schools are D&P schools, take part in Advent and Share Lent campaigns and programs such as ThinkFast.
