The Business SHSM empowers high school students to explore their interests in entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, and management. Through this program, students gain valuable certifications, practical workplace experience, and a solid foundation for further education and dynamic business careers. This program includes:
Bundle your credits: Students must complete a bundle of nine senior credits which includes:
Four major credits in business studies, which can include courses in accounting, marketing, entrepreneurship, and international business.
· Two English credits, one of which is grade 12.
· Two credits in Mathematics, one of which is grade 12.

Two Cooperative Education Credits related to the Business Sector. Apprenticeship, College, or Workplace bound students can take FOUR or more credits in coop while fulfilling graduation requirements.
Certifications and Training: Students must complete sector-recognized certifications and training, such as:
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Level C
- Standard First Aid
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
Experiential Learning: Opportunities for hands-on learning through cooperative education placements, job shadowing, and field trips.
· Reach Ahead Experiences: Activities that connect students with their postsecondary goals, such as visits to colleges, universities, or workplaces.
· Sector-Partnered Experiences: Activities that involve working with industry partners to gain real-world experience.
Example of Experiential Learning
A Business SHSM program could visit a corporate office or a startup incubator. They would tour the facility, interact with business professionals, and participate in a workshop on entrepreneurship or business strategy, gaining insights into the business world and career opportunities.

Workplace Pathway:
Graduates can pursue careers such as administrative assistant, sales associate, customer service representative, or entrepreneur.
College Pathway:
Students can enroll in programs like Business Administration, Marketing, Human Resources, or Accounting Technician, leading to careers such as marketing coordinator, HR assistant, or accounting technician.
University Pathway:
Students can pursue degrees in Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, or International Business, leading to careers such as financial analyst, business consultant, marketing manager, or operations manager.
Apprenticeship Pathway:
Although less common in the business sector, some students may pursue apprenticeships in areas like financial services or office administration, leading to roles such as financial advisor or office manager.
