Green Niagara Catholic – Ontario EcoSchools
Ontario EcoSchools is an environmental education program designed to assist school communities in the development of ecological literacy and environmental practices to become environmentally responsible citizens and reduce the ecological footprints of our schools.
Niagara Catholic has been a leader in the province since its initial involvement in the program. In the 2009-2010 school year, Niagara Catholic the first Board in the province with all schools certified as Ontario EcoSchools. The 2017–2018 school year marked the ninth consecutive year that all of our schools were certified as Ontario EcoSchools – 10 Platinum, 32 Gold, 14 Silver and 1 Bronze school.
Curbside organics, litterless lunches, Earth Hour participation, tree planting, turning off lights and computer monitors, recycling printer and toner cartridges, purchasing reusable drinking bottles, recycling scrap paper, using porcelain dishes for lunch, photocopying on both sides of documents and using email over paper are just a few of the ways the Ecoschools program is coming to life in our schools.
