Grade 1 Students at St. Gabriel Lalemant Catholic Elementary School get Falls Turned Blue and Green for Waste Reduction Week.

Waste Reduction Week in Ontario took place October 16-22, and the students in Mrs. Cotrufo-Mancuso’s Grade 1 class learned all about how to answer Pope Francis’s call to be good stewards of the Earth and to think about their eco-footprint in the things they do.

They thought it would be a great idea to have Niagara Falls turned our Board colours blue and green in recognition of Waste Reduction Week, and Mayor Jim Diodati, a Guardian graduate himself, agreed.

On Sunday evening, the Grade 1 class were joined by their parents, Principal Sheri Bassett, Director of Education John Crocco, Superintendent of Education Pat Rocca, Mayor Diodati and his son Jimmy, where they saw the lights turned blue and green for an hour, beginning at 8 p.m.

Cara Paterson had the honour of doing the colour change, assisted by Director Crocco and Mayor Diodati.
