While schools across Niagara Catholic marked Shrove Tuesday with pancakes, students and staff at St. Kevin Catholic Elementary School marked Mission Day, a day when students participate in a day filled with fun activities – and pancakes – in support of Development and Peace.
Mission Day is a tradition that goes back some 40 years said Angela Lucchetta, one of the organizers of this year’s event. It’s a tradition tied to Father Jim Mulligan at St. Kevin Parish, located across the road. Back in the day, Mission Day was a small event, where students and staff donated items and held a mini Mardi Gras in advance of Lent.
The year’s event included big-ticket raffle items donated by students, staff and the community, a white elephant table and games throughout the day. Students from Notre Dame College School were also on hand to assist with face painting and hairstyling.
The final amount raised has yet to be tallied.Good News
