Niagara Catholic is thrilled to announce that we have gold, silver, and bronze medallists returning to their schools from the Skills Ontario Competition in Toronto.

Alessandra Maddelena, a Grade 12 student at Denis Morris Catholic High School, once again earned a gold medal in the hairstyling event and will represent Niagara Catholic as a member of Team Ontario at the Skills Canada competition in Toronto later this month.

Nicole Castro, a Grade 12 student at Saint Michael Catholic High School, earned a silver medal in aesthetics.

Alessandra and Nicole are coached by Cristina Maddalena.

Cody Thibeault, a Grade 11 student at Notre Dame College School coached by Carmine Annicchiarico, finished the heating systems competition with a bronze medal. And Matteo Volpini, a Grade 12 student at Blessed Trinity Catholic Secondary School, and partner Isabella Molek, a Grade 12 student at Denis Morris Catholic High School, also earned a bronze medal in the horticulture and landscaping competition, coached by Darren Schmahl.

We’d also like to recognize our outstanding VEX Robotics teams for their achievements at the Skills Ontario VEX IQ Robotics Competition.

Representing St. Alexander Catholic Elementary School in the Grades 4–6 division, Andrew Pampena, Paolo Musso, Remy Cuviello, and Wyatt Desso earned an impressive sixth-place finish while competing against teams from across Ontario.

In the Grades 7–8 division, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary students John Paul Cirone and Josh Maxwell captured second place under the guidance of coaches Melissa Lococo and Claudia DiGiovanni.

Congratulations to our medal winners! The months of dedicating yourselves to practicing your skills and knowledge months have clearly paid off. And congratulations to all Niagara Catholic students who participated in Skills Ontario this week. You represented yourselves and your schools well and we are all proud of every one of you!

Special thank you to our technology/SHSM/OYAP team and all the teachers for their guidance and leadership this year.
