
Mya Stienstra was anything but overconfident heading into the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association wrestling championships March 3-4 in Peterborough.
“I went in not knowing what to expect. I am in Grade 9, this is my first year and I didn’t really know anyone in my weight class so I was nervous, really nervous,” the Grade 9 student at Blessed Trinity said.
“But I went in and won my first match and thought ‘This is going good.’ Then I won my second match and I am on to the semifinals. It’s now the next day and the semifinal was a really close match. I won 5-3 and it went the full four minutes.”
All of sudden, she was in the OFSAA final of the 47.5-kilogram division.
