Cait Whittard made the most of her third trip to the world rowing championships.

The 20-year-old St. Catharines resident left the recent under-23 world championships in Poznan, Poland, with a bronze medal in the women’s eight. She narrowly missed the podium in the pair as her and crewmate Maylie Valiquette ended up fourth in A final.

The Denis Morris grad described the experience of winning her first worlds medal as a bit surreal.

“I haven’t had much success at the world championships and many disappointing moments. I think to make two A finals and then a medal — which is what we had hoped for and were working towards — was still unreal in the moment.”
