Early on in the recruiting process, Serena D’Amico honed in on the University of Detroit Mercy Titans as a place to pursue a NCAA Division 1 softball career.
About a year ago, one D’Amico’s former coaches, a Detroit Mercy alumnus, put her in touch with the school’s head coach, Dan Vitale.
The Grade 12 student at Saint Michael Catholic High School visited the school shortly afterwards and found a home.
“I just loved everything about the school and he made me an offer about two weeks later. From there, I accepted it about a week later.”
The 17-year-old Niagara Falls resident also went on an official visit to Wayne State in Detroit and liked that school too but it couldn’t top Detroit Mercy.
