Denis Morris’ Shanelle Burcher and Rheagan Hamm were on the same weary page at the start of the senior women’s 63-kilogram lightweight double Sunday at the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association championships.
“In the first 500, we were had an overwhelming feeling of fatigue but then it was ‘OK, this is the last race of the season. We have to go,’ ” said Hamm, after the race. “There’s nothing you can do about it. You just have to go and she (Burcher) agreed.”
The double did just and brought home Hamm’s second career Schoolboy gold — she won previous schoolboy gold in junior women’s open double — and Burcher’s first. Burcher previously won a Schoolboy bronze in Grade 9 in lightweight women’s coxed four.
