Niagara Catholic's Indigenous Education team attends Brock University's World Water Day

Niagara Catholic celebrated World Water Day, 2025, with a student-crafted art installation, presented at Brock University March 20.
The artwork focused on the power of water, featuring impressive creations from students across Niagara Catholic. This collaboration required students to think thoughtfully about the importance of water in our world and its significance to Indigenous cultures, all while celebrating its irreplaceable beauty.
Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School students in Grades 4-8, as well as students from St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School in Niagara Falls were encouraged to use mediums of their choice and to take inspiration from this year’s theme of The Great Wave. The result was an impactful art display, inspired by Japanese artist, Hokusai.
More fantastic artwork was provided from students in Niagara Catholic's Soaring Eagles program, who focused on similar themes highlighting the importance of the protection of water resources, and photography pieces by Grade 12 students at Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School.
This project that encouraged students to create striking images using art principles that encapsulate the essence of water. Students were required to research traditional and cultural perspectives on water in Indigenous culture, with a focus on the sacredness, stewardship and its deep routes to community connections.
World Water Day advocates for the sustainable management of our world’s freshwater systems, urging us to protect and manage what is left of the world's freshwater resources. This year’s focus on World Water Day highlights the profound impacts of melting glaciers, to raise awareness of how the uncertainty in water flows is contributing to the global water crisis.
Thank you to our students at Sacred Heart and St. Patrick Catholic elementary schools, as well as Holy Cross and Soaring Eagles, for their contributions to Brock’s World Water Day celebrations.
A big thank you to our Indigenous Education team for organizing Niagara Catholic’s presence at the event.
