On November 8-9, Lita Sutor, a Grade 12 student at Blessed Trinity Catholic Secondary School, and her older sister Kaelin (Class of 2022) participated in the annual Basil Williams All-Native Basketball Tournament held in the Cattaraugus Territory in New York State,  representing the Six Nations of the Grand River.

Lita said playing in the tournament was more about the experience and exposure to Indigenous culture than winning, particularly since she has had limited involvement with the Indigenous community until now. Lita was very impressed with the pride displayed by everyone. She’s looking forward to finding more ways to connect with her culture in the future.  

“We really don’t get an opportunity to come together and celebrate,” said Lita. “I also really liked the fact that I got to play with my sister because I have never played with her, and she came down from Ottawa to be on the team.”
