Mark Ryan took to heart the lessons he learned in June at the recent Canadian national boxing championships in Quebec City.

After winning his first two matches and then losing a third on a decision he thought he should have won, the St. Catharines Boxing Club member vowed to focus on scoring points instead of looking for knockouts.

“That’s the main difference between novice and open class,” he said at the time. “The nationals were more of a lesson and motivation. You don’t get every decision so I had to make clear that I had won the fights. I pushed hard.
