New Orleans lands running twins

The University of New Orleans got a two-for-one deal when it went shopping for NCAA Division 1 scholarship runners at Saint Francis.

Its shopping spree landed 17-year-old twin sisters, Sophia and Katelyn Perri. The former Thorold Elite Track Club and current EDGE Sport runners have been steadily improving since they began running more seriously in Grade 10. In Grade 11, the siblings quit playing hockey and soccer to focus solely on running.

“We knew it was going to be a lot, especially doing all three sports at once, and we realized we could go to school for track so we decided to step away from soccer and hockey and really focus on running,” Katelyn said.

It turned out to be a good choice as the two qualified for the national cross country championships in Grade 10, 11 and 12.

“We started getting (scholarship) offers in Grade 11 and we kept getting more and more from there,” Katelyn said.
