Niagara Catholic was honoured to welcome Mary Gordon, founder of the Roots of Empathy program, to the Catholic Education Centre today to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Roots of Empathy program in Niagara. This special event was held in partnership with the District School Board of Niagara and the Early Childhood Community Development Centre ( ECCDC).
Ms. Gordon delivered an inspiring keynote presentation to Niagara Catholic’s elementary and secondary Child and Youth Workers and Child Youth Counsellors from the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN), with Mental Health and Well-being staff, and Board administration.
The presentation highlighted the important impact of the Roots of Empathy program in classrooms with children as an evidence-based support for nurturing empathy, reducing aggression, and the promotion of social-emotional intelligence.
During the sessions, children in Roots of Empathy classrooms are given a clear understanding of the needs of a baby and what it is to be a good parent.
Today’s 25th Anniversary Baby Celebration was celebrated by parents with their babies, the Roots of Empathy instructors and staff. Each baby received a Roots of Empathy t-shirt to celebrate their completion of the program.
Thank you to all those who joined us today!
