Schweitzer pins gold at OFSAA

Klaus Schweitzer had to wait a long time to face competition at the high school wrestling level.

There were no other athletes in the 38-kilogram division at the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association championships so he advanced directly into the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association championships March 3-4 in Peterborough.

His lack of competition didn’t prevent the Grade 9 student from aiming high at OFSAA.

“I was mostly looking for the win. I had a positive mindset and I wasn’t thinking of losing,” the 14-year-old Grimsby resident said.

Schweitzer ended up winning three matches to capture OFSAA gold. He won his first match 18-12, had an easy win in his second match and had his most difficult match in the final.
