St. Teresa of Calcutta student bound for national spelling bee

How do you spell success?
We spell it S-h-i-a P-e-r-d-u-e.
Shia’s a Grade 4 student at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic
Elementary School, and is an avid speller, reader, karaoke
singer, and football, chess, and video game player. He
participated in the Niagara Region Spelling Bee March 29 at
the Ovation Ballroom in Port Robinson and now, he’s Niagara’s
junior spelling champion, bound for the national spelling bee.
Shia spelled eight words on his way to the final: parity, palpable,
discrepancy, yaws, serendipity, misinterpret, Belgium, and
epiphany. He earned his spot in national spelling bee after
successfully spelling the word accede.
Congratulations, Shia! You made your family, your school, and
all Niagara Catholic proud, and we’ll be watching and cheering
you on when you compete against super spellers like you from
across Canada later this year.
