Saint Michael’s Alan Tirop fell just short of winning his second straight Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations gold medal in the 400 metres.
Last year, the 16-year-old Niagara Falls resident ended up winning gold medals in the novice boys 200 metres and 400 metres but in the OFSAA junior boys final Friday at the Niagara Olympic Club, he won a silver medal, finishing 0.44 seconds behind the winner, Shaun Donald, in a personal best time of 49.67 seconds. Westlane’s Musab Mohamed won the bronze medal.
“This season I got injured in the indoor season and going outside my mental state was crushed because I was the 400 champ and the 200 champ and indoor I didn’t really have that good of a season,” the 16-year-old Niagara Falls resident said. “So I had to work more on my mental game and I feel that this season was very tough but I was glad that I was able to prevail and secure second place this year.”
The toughness of this season was because of a variety of factors.
