Program Details
The Transportation sector equips students with the knowledge and skills to pursue careers in automotive technology, aviation, logistics, and other transportation-related fields through specialized courses and hands-on experiences.
A Bundle of Credits: Students must complete a bundle of nine senior credits, which includes:
· Four major credits in Transportation, which can include courses in automotive technology or light aircraft maintenance.
- One English credit.
- One mathematics credit.
- One additional credit in Business and Science

At least TWO Co-operative Education Credits related to the Transportation Sector. Apprenticeship, College, or Workplace bound students can take SIX credits in co-op while fulfilling graduation requirements.
Certifications and Training: Students must complete sector-recognized certifications and training, such as:
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Level C
- Standard First Aid
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
Experiential Learning: Opportunities for hands-on learning through co-operative education placements, job shadowing, and field trips.
- Reach Ahead Experiences: Activities that connect students with their postsecondary goals, such as visits to colleges, universities, or workplaces.
- Sector-Partnered Experiences: Activities that involve working with industry partners to gain real-world experience.
Example of Experiential Learning
A Transportation SHSM field trip might visit a major transportation hub, such as an airport or a logistics center. They would tour the facility, meet with professionals in various roles, and learn about the complexities of transportation management and logistics. This experience would provide a comprehensive understanding of the transportation industry, highlighting career opportunities and the importance of efficient transportation systems.

Workplace Pathway:
Graduates can pursue a career as an Automotive Service Technician, diagnosing and repairing vehicles, or a Truck Driver, transporting goods across various distances.
College Pathway:
Careers include Aviation Technician, maintaining and repairing aircraft, or a Logistics Coordinator, managing the supply chain and transportation of goods.
University Pathway:
Post-Secondary Studies can provide an avenue to a career as an Transportation Engineer, designing and improving transportation systems, or an Urban Planner, developing efficient transportation networks in cities.
Apprenticeship Pathway:
Examples of careers include training to become a Heavy Equipment Technician, maintaining and repairing heavy machinery, or an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Apprentice, ensuring the safety and functionality of aircraft.
