Retiring Teacher Recognized for Roots of Empathy

Mrs. Adams holds up her certificate from the Roots of Empathy organization for her years of dedication to the program.

Niagara Catholic District School Board teacher Val Adams has seen over 15 Roots of Empathy babies pass through her classroom since its Niagara introduction in 2000. “I have one student who participated in the program, attended our school and is now at Notre Dame, the high school next to us,” recalled the elementary teacher.

Mrs. Adams will officially retire from St. Kevin’s Catholic School this year after 30 plus years of teaching. She was formally recognized June 15 as one of the first Niagara Catholic teachers to host the program in her classroom. She received a certificate and letter from Roots of Empathy founder Mary Gordon in recognition of her dedication in delivering the Roots curriculum and her efforts for building a more caring, peaceful and civil society.
