Seniors’ Day Care Opens Inside St. Mary Catholic Elementary School in Welland

When most people think of a day care centre in schools, they think of one for preschoolers.

But St. Mary Catholic Elementary School in Welland is the new home of Eventful Days Seniors Day Centre, a day care program for seniors.

The idea came together after Eventful Days owner Jane Larouche spoke with Niagara Catholic trustee Ted O’Leary about the long wait time for seniors to participate in day programming through the Niagara Region, and the lack of space to house a program in Niagara.

O’Leary suggested speaking with Niagara Catholic Director of Education John Crocco, who loved the idea of putting a day program for seniors inside the school. Mr. Crocco shared the idea with staff responsible for Community Use of Schools, and the idea of putting Eventful Days into St. Mary came to life.

On September 21 – World Alzheimer’s Day – representatives from Niagara Catholic were on hand to to celebrate the ribbon cutting for Eventful Days, which will open in the next few weeks.
