Holy Childhood Walk Raises $11,300 for Students Abroad

Elementary students across Niagara Catholic have participated in Holy Childhood Walks since 1984. Since that time, Niagara Catholic and its preceding boards have raised more than $676,000 for the Holy Childhood Association to fund projects in the developing world.

In October and November 2017, 38 Niagara Catholic schools participated in Holy Childhood Walks, which raised $11,341.12 to support projects in Uganda, Nigeria, Haiti, India, Pakistan and Sir Lanka.

Capital Projects Update

Construction is completed at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Elementary School in Grimsby, where workers have been busy for the past several months constructing a new 15,000 square-foot addition to the school. The $4.5-million project includes six classrooms and three child care rooms. Occupation of the classrooms will begin this month, and exterior work will continue as weather permits.

2017-2018 Budget Update and Design of System Priorities and Budget 2018-2019 Collaboration Schedule

Each month during Committee of the Whole Meetings, the Director of Education and Senior Staff provide a verbal update to Trustees on the implementation of the annual Board-approved System Priorities and Budget.

Additionally, each January, Senior Administrative Council begins the process to design the following school year’s System Priorities and Annual Budget. The focus of the consultation and collaboration is to ensure the continued achievement of the Board’s Vision 2020 Strategic Plan, its Mission, Vision and Values, the two Strategic Directions and the four goals of the Ministry of Education in providing programs, services and supports to all students.

The Director and Senior Administrative Council continue to be committed to providing Catholic educational excellence through programs and services for all students, and to achieving the Board’s Vision 2020 Strategic Plan and Annual System Priorities through balanced and financially sustainable annual budgets.

Consultation will take place with a variety of groups from January through May 2018. Review the schedule in Section C3 of the January 16 Committee of the Whole Agenda.

2018-2019 School Year Calendar Being Vetted

Niagara Catholic’s 2018-2019 School Year Calendar is currently being vetted by stakeholders. With comments in place, Senior Administrative Council will create a draft 2018-2019 School Year Calendar to present to the Board. The Board-approved calendar will be presented to the Ministry of Education for final approval. The approved calendar will be placed on the Board website for parents to plan throughout the coming school year.
