The Grade One/ Two students at St. Martin Catholic Elementary School embraced Earth Hour March 27. They brainstormed possible Earth Hour activities and composed a letter to their parents asking them to support Earth Hour at home. The school Earth Hour was also a success. Students and staff used many of the brainstormed ideas to create centres that day. The highlights were using ‘wind up, crank and pump’ flash lights to create a shadow puppet show, colouring to music on our ‘crank up’ radio and playing cards and games by ‘crank up’ lantern. They also peeled apples using an old-fashioned crank-style apple peeler and roasted the apples over a flashlight-powered campfire.
