Upcoming Events for December

December is always an exciting time across Niagara Catholic. Please read on to find out more about some of the great things happening across our system.

Niagara Catholic’s Inaugural Meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 2 at Denis Morris Catholic High School in St. Catharines. This meeting will begin at 7 p.m., immediately after a Mass at St. Julia Catholic Church, led by Bishop Gerard Bergie.

The Inaugural Meeting will include the swearing-in of Trustees elected for the 2014-2018 term, and the election of the 2015 Chair and Vice-Chair of the Niagara Catholic Board of Trustees.

Clancypic1On December 3, Grade 8 students across Niagara Catholic will come together with students from their secondary school’s family of schools for the annual Grade 8 Mass. This event is part of Niagara Catholic’s commitment to faith formation and to creating a seamless transition from our Catholic elementary school to one of our Catholic secondary schools.


slide-french-immersionOur French Immersion Open Houses begin on Wednesday, December 3. If you are interested in enrolling your child in French Immersion for September 2015, or your child has expressed an interest in expanding his or her French language skills, please check the schedule to attend the Open House in your community. French Immersion registration will begin online in mid-January.

Christmas ChoirfestChoirs from several Niagara Catholic elementary and secondary schools will bring their vocal talents to the community this Christmas. They will participate in the annual Christmas Choirfest at malls and other public venues in Niagara from December 8-12. Check the schedule for schools and locations and take some time to enjoy some Christmas cheer offered by our very talented students while you are out and about during this week.

Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School’s choir is one of the featured performers at the St. Catharines Civic Carol Sing on Tuesday, December 9. This event takes place at noon at St. Thomas Anglican Church on Ontario Street (across from Montebello Park) in St. Catharines. If you are in the area, please consider attending to enjoy the beautiful music offered by the Holy Cross choir.

Niagara Catholic Senior Staff, Trustees, Administrators and Managers will be joined by Bishop Bergie and priests from across the Diocese during the annual Faith Formation and Lunch for Priests, Trustees, Administrators and Managers on December 11. This event allows us to thank our parish priests for all they do in our schools throughout the year.


Throughout December, schools will hold Christmas concerts, food, toy and clothing drives and other events. Please be sure to check your child’s school calendar and newsletter for events taking place at their school this month.

merry-christmas-languages1The Christmas break will take place from Monday, December 22, 2014 through Friday, January 2, 2015. The Catholic Education Centre will also be closed during this time. Classes will resume on Monday, January 5, 2015. Please note that our French Immersion Registration, Kindergarten Open House and Secondary School Open Houses will take place in January, 2015.
